Post Surgery Information

Following your oral surgery, adequate rest and relaxation is required. The following are some of the common side effects and lifestyle habits that should be adopted to ensure proper healing:

     • Swelling, Bruising and Discomfort
     • Limited Mouth Opening
     • Temperature Elevation
     • Stitches
     • Bleeding
     • Spitting/Sucking
     • Oral Hygiene
     • Diet
     • Medications

Post root canal treatment

      • Complete restoration promptly
      • A little discomfort to be expected for 24 hours
      • Use over the counter medications for pain relief

Post major restoration

Could be sore for a day to two. If the bite is not perfect please contact us to arrange for an adjustment.

Post nitrous (laughing gas) treatment

      • No big meals before or after treatment with nitrous
      • Rest before leaving office

Pre-medication needs prior to treatment

Some patients may need prophylactic antibiotics for the following conditions prior to dental treatment:

      • Prosthetic joints
      • Heart murmur or heart valve replacement
      • Immunosuppression as a result of chemotherapy

Post Implant surgery

Do not brush area for a week. Stitches will dissolve in 2 weeks. Usually a little swelling and discomfort to be expected. Antibiotics and pain killers will be supplied - please take as directed. Softer foods should be eaten for a few days and chew more on other side. No rinsing for a few days after treatment.
